According to the latest IPC analysis, from December 2018 to January 2019, a total of 15.9 million people, i.e. 53% of the population analysed are severely food insecure, despite ongoing humanitarian food assistance (HFA). This includes 17% of the population. 7.5 million people in need of nutritional assistance, including 2.9 million acutely malnourished \400,000 children under 5 suffering from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition. Sanid today fighting to help large number of children.
Prevalence of malnutrition among children is alarming as a result of poverty suffered by families due to war. Sand has opened a health unit to treat malnutrition. This center receives 167 children suffering from severe acute and medium malnutrition. This number is larger than expected. Where the center is supposed to receive only 67 children during the program. As a result, funds allocated to the program were quickly depleted. Our fear is that the program will stop because the limit funding.
Sanid organization has been starting to treat the malnutrition of children in December 2018. We are operating a health unit with limited fund to reduce the malnutrition among the children. We received 167 children for the three months ago. 167 reached through the program and they are under treating. What we fear is that the program will stop because of the inability of the organization to secure funding necessary for the continuation of the activities of the program. We need to keep it running.
This project works to address the malnutrition situation among children for more than 10,800 poor families and affected by the war. This project will protect children from the negative effects of malnutrition. As well as protecting children from starvation and death in 80 % of the children have sever acute malnutrition with complications.
