The ILGA World Conference was held in May 2022 in Long Beach, California, USA. A full conference report will be published by the end of 2022. ILGA World collaborated with the Its Gets Better Project, the local host, on numerous areas.
Additionally, the 2022 ILGA World Conference presented multiple learning opportunities, challenges and significant changes. The conference was the first hybrid conference delivered by ILGA World. There were significant challenges in securing required visas for participants, including scholars from the target regions of the project. The result of diligence and hard work of ILGA World staff and attendees meant ILGA World were able to secure as many travel visas as possible for applicants that were able to obtain a visa meeting at a local embassy or consulate. 131 scholars were supported to attend physically in Long Beach as part of over 600 attendees from over 90 countries.

ILGA World has been planning the 2022 ILGA World Conference since 2019. The conference will be held from May 2nd to 6th, 2022 in Long Beach, California, USA, in partnership with the local conference and ILGA member, the It Gets Better Project.
Through the support of funders and donors, ILGA World will bring over 100 LGBTI activists as fully funded scholars. The conference is expected to have an attendance of approximately 500 activists, donors, changemakers, international representatives from the UN and other mechanisms, and representatives from various governments.
The conference includes 3 plenary sessions, 5 days of social events for the attendees, 28 pre-conference sessions/dialogues/training, and 95 workshops, rainbow talks, roundtables and panel discussions presented by activists and LGBTI-led organizations.
The 2022 conference will be ILGA World's first hybrid in-person and online conference. This hybridization ensures that LGBTI human rights defenders from around the globe can attend regardless of travel ability, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, or other factors. Up to 500 attendees are expected to participate in person.
