The laws that criminalise consensual same-sex sexual activity, gender identity, or gender expression have become the cornerstone of societal discrimination and violence against all LGBTI people. These criminalising laws send the message that LGBTI persons are second or third-class citizens who deserve to be treated unequally. The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated.

The Database addresses the historical challenge of accessing information on global LGBTI issues, offering an open-access and inclusive platform for activists, researchers, and human rights institutions. Its unique design provides detailed profiles for 193 UN Member States, 47 non-UN Member jurisdictions and numerous subnational jurisdictions. It presents essential information, advocacy opportunities, upcoming deadlines, and curated news from the ILGA World Monitor. It is utilised worldwide.
