IHI offers life-saving surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and facilitate access to radiation therapy for all of our patients regardless of their ability to pay. We want to provide cancer care and treatment to the women that need it the most while maintaining it at a low price. The treatment options available include chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy, pathology, and all other imaging and testing. The program is also entirely operated by a Haitian medical staff.
Cancer takes the lives of thousands of young Haitian women and care isn't available in many locations. Many of our patients aren't able to afford care and often come to us when it's too late. The majority of Haitian women cannot afford medical expenses in Haiti. Early detection is currently rare because they either spend a long time seeking help in the public sector and/or don't have the finances to receive private care. IHI is one of the few that caters to the needs of the poor in the country.
We want to continue to provide cancer care and treatment to the women that need it the most & to expand awareness, diagnosis, and treatment to new locations around the country. This is why IHI continues to be an important resource for Haitian women. Our program is a centralized space that directly provides cancer diagnosis, care & treatment. In addition, we provide counseling and a support system that many patients need and have a national awareness program driven by our breast cancer survivors.
Long-term impact includes continuing to treat more patients in early stages of breast cancer and ultimately saving more lives. We want to continue to decrease the number of patient deaths due to late detection and lack of funds. IHI has treated over 700 Haitian women with breast cancer, and over 1500 Haitian patients overall, since the program's inception in June 2013. We want to help even more!
