ICiT is an innovative endeavor that educates and empowers underserved youth through extraordinary filmmaking opportunities. ICiT youth go through a month long screenwriting camp, to learn and be mentored on how to write a great script. One script is selected and given to a professional producer and director, and turned into a world-class film, and premiered at the Nashville Film Festival, where these ICiT youth are celebrated and their stories are validated on the local and international stage.
In today's world, youth and children are rarely given a chance to create and have their voice cultivated. Underserved youth are especially left behind. This is a cultural and community tragedy. When youth are empowered to create, like Jaida and Jessica (our latest winning writers), and then given strong encouragement and support, it has an unfathomable effect. This spark can lead to many life changing results.
ICiT educates youth to be exceptional storytellers, and encourages them to find the unique and extraordinary aspects of their story that their community needs to hear and then learn from. ICiT then validates and empowers these capable voices by surrounding them with professionals, who maximize their idea to its full potential and then celebrate them on the local and international stage.
The longterm impact that ICiT has on youth is remarkable. It plants a seed to dream bigger; it ignites a passion for learning; and most importantly, it solidifies a confidence in these youth that they have value and a voice, and that voice can be heard. This causes youth to go after things in life that they never had thought possible. ICiT youth have the confidence that they and their ideas have the capacity to reach their full potential. And that impact on our communities is priceless.
