Since July Water For People-Guatemala organized several health and hygiene education trainings in conjunction with the municipality’s ministries of health and education. These trainings were implemented through the Safe Water and Health Hygiene Education Program that was developed by Water For People-Guatemala and partners. The hygiene education program taught community members about handwashing, food hygiene, personal hygiene, and proper water storage techniques. The hygiene program also focused on the importance of sanitation and how open defecation can lead to sickness and an unclean environment. The sanitation education will lay the groundwork for sanitation programming that is set to take place in these communities within the next two years.
