Hurricane Melissa strengthened to a powerful Category 5 storm this week, unleashing catastrophic flooding, landslides and widespread damage in Jamaica, Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, in the strongest storm on planet earth to date in 2025. Entire communities are evacuating and shelters are filling, even as those in Jamaica and Hispaniola already hit by heavy storms begin to repair. This fund will support urgent aid and long-term recovery in affected communities.
Millions of people across the Caribbean are facing catastrophic conditions - including life-threatening storm surge, historic rainfall, and major flooding. Communities need urgent support for shelter, food, safe drinking water, and clothing in the aftermath. Infrastructure has been critically damaged: power outages, blocked roads from landslides, and damage to homes and critical services are already impeding rescue efforts, and communities affected will require support well into recovery.
Donations to the Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund will support emergency response efforts, including those in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, the Bahamas, and beyond. Immediate relief will include search and rescue assistance, medical care, food, clean water, and temporary shelter. In the long term, your contribution will help rebuild homes and infrastructure and support local, community-led recovery efforts - especially those focused on marginalized and underserved populations most impacted by the storm.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
