Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund

What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

Emergency Relief for Students after Storm Melissa
After Storm Melissa, Yspaniola will prioritize a power generator for the Batey Libertad learning center-an urgent need beyond our means-so classes continue during outages. We'll also keep tablets and laptops available for students, teachers, and volunteers in the center, preschool, and office.
Jamaica Fishing Community Hurricane Melissa Relief
Jamaica's coastal and fishing communities were among the hardest hit by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. We're raising funds to deliver urgent relief and support long-term recovery.
Hurricane Melissa Relief
Hurricane Melissa has rapidly intensified into a catastrophic Category 5 storm, threatening widespread devastation across the Caribbean. Jamaica is currently in the storm's direct path, with forecasts indicating severe and sustained impacts across the island, particularly in its "breadbasket" agricultural parishes and vital tourism regions. As Melissa tracks toward Jamaica, heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides are expected to cause further destruction and hardship.
Americares Response to Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as one of the most powerful Atlantic storms in history-bringing 185 mph winds causing widespread destruction, destroying homes, damaging health facilities and cutting off roads. Americares is deploying an emergency response to the region to support in restoring health services, protecting vulnerable communities, and building resilience for the future.
URGENT: Mercy Corps Prepares for Hurricane Melissa
Hurricane Melissa has exploded into a rare Category 5 storm with 175 mph winds. The National Hurricane Center warns this could be the strongest hurricane to directly strike Jamaica in recorded history, and the strongest storm to hit Earth this year. The coming days and weeks will be critical for communities in Hurricane Melissa's path.
#Melissa LGBTIQ+ Support fund #prayforJamacia
The project seeks to provide support to approximately 200 LGBTIQ+ Jamaicans with rebuilding efforts in an effort to regain some normalcy in their lives post Hurricane Melissa. Through provision of this project, we seek to build the resilience of the Jamaican LGBTIQ+ community by strengthening social ties and community support. Investing in infrastructure repairs will aid in mitigating negative mental health impacts and strengthen community support networks.
Cash Relief for Hurricane Melissa Survivors
Hurricane Melissa, Jamaica's first Category 5 storm ever, left 500,000 without power and displaced thousands. GiveDirectly is sending cash to families in the hardest-hit areas so they can buy what they need most - food, water, shelter, medicine, and whatever else they may need. Cash aid is fast, remote, and lets survivors decide what is best for themselves, ensuring dignity and speeding recovery. With more funds, we can reach thousands more Jamaicans rebuilding after this disaster.
Hurricane Melissa Emergency Relief
Hurricane Melissa has unleashed catastrophic flooding and destruction across Haiti, leaving thousands of displaced families in desperate need of shelter and basic supplies. Mothers and children are standing through the night to stay dry. Pregnant women are holding their babies above rising waters and to protect them from encroaching rats. We urgently need your help to provide emergency tarps, water, hygiene kits, and disinfectant supplies to protect lives and prevent disease outbreaks.
Melissa Response: Farms & Food Security
Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as one of the strongest storms on record. Blue Atlas is conducting a needs assessment to guide community support, providing direct aid to farms, markets, and community kitchens to reopen and serve emergency food. The project includes infrastructure support, technical guidance, and the development of a FEAST Center to build long-term resilience through climate-smart agriculture and aquaculture training.
Hurricane Melissa Relief: Help Children in Jamaica
Hurricane Melissa threatens Jamaica with devastating winds and flooding. One of the most at-risk places is the Cromarty Grove Early Childhood Education Center (ECDC) in Spanish Town, which serves 70 young children and 8 staff members. Over 95% of families live in poverty and lack the resources to recover. With your support, Community Action NOW! will provide food, clean water, emergency supplies, and restore classrooms so children have a safe place to return to school and rebuild hope.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
