"Disability Does Not Mean Limitation": How Digital Training Is Opening New Doors in Dominica

By Seraphine | IsraAID Work Online Dominica Participant

Meet Seraphine, from Portsmouth, Dominica. As a person with a disability, she'd always believed in her own abilities — but the world of remote work felt out of reach. Here, in her own words, she shares how the Work Online Dominica program changed that.

My name is Seraphine, and participating in the Work Online Dominica program has been one of the most transformative experiences of my personal and professional life. Before joining, I had solid administrative and writing experience, but I long doubted whether remote work was possible for someone in my sitaution.

From day one, the facilitators created an environment where inclusion wasn't just discussed — it was practiced. I felt respected and supported, and at no point did my disability define the opportunities available to me. The IsraAID and Work Online Dominica team made sure I had access, guidance, and understanding, alongside other cohort members who uplifted and encouraged one another. As the training progressed, I gained practical knowledge in freelancing, proposal writing, portfolio development, and client management. But, more importantly, I gained confidence.

The program taught me something deeply meaningful: that working online is not limited by geography, disability, or circumstance. With determination and support, I could create opportunities for myself without leaving my home or compromising my independence.

After completing the training, I secured online jobs as a proofreader, editor, and Virtual Assistant — a new chapter where I could earn an income and grow professionally with dignity and pride. Today, I feel hopeful, motivated, and proud. I want my story to remind others that disability does not mean limitation — it means unique strength, perseverance, and adaptability.

"When persons with disabilities are given access, opportunity, and encouragement, our potential becomes limitless."

IsraAID Dominica is committed to creating inclusive digital pathways that help people learn, earn, and thrive in a rapidly changing digital economy. Your support makes programs like this possible — thank you.
