Our efforts, amassed with other teams, are really making a difference.
We have often seen families that did not intitially get certain supplies, receive them for the first time: and they are truly grateful.
With nights getting colder, we shifted our way of thinking solely about food, into a mindset of keeping people warm in the higher elevation areas. The way to do that has been with a 'blanket and coat drive'.
Last week we collected and bought a total of 60 coats, 10 sleeping bags, 120 pairs of socks and 10 boxes of hand warmers!
We also went to area hotels and asked them if they would donate Sterno cans, as a way for survivors to cook food: and we collected nearly 200!
As the months get colder, we ask for support still. Many families do not have a central heating source. Power has been restored in most of the valley areas (like Asheville and Biltmore Forest), but not for the hundreds of homes in the outskirt hills of Asheville, Black Mountain and Fletcher.
Please spread the word about our ongoing missions!
Note also: Many of the gas stations within 20 miles of Asheville now have fuel if you are headed to the area!
