After completing 30 hours of search and rescue efforts in Steinhatchee, FL we completed nearly 60 hours of rescue in western North Carolina which holds catastrophic damage. Basic needs are going to be hard to come by for months. We are a bridge for many to get those needs met.
Hurricane Helene was a massive major hurricane, that wreaked chaos in the Florida Panhandle and destroyed many Carolina towns. Towns and their buildings are experiencing 15 ft storm surges along the coast and losing key infrastructure. If anyone remembers our work with Hurricane Michael, this closely resembles the damage that Michael cause. The storm also attacked Georgia and Tennessee. Residents have no water, infrastructure or electricity.
We are boots on the ground, ready to help citizens meet their basic needs until FEMA and other services can make financial access available. From meals to hygiene, and even gas, we are a community help and have been for 13 years across the country. We want to help save lives from starvation, bacteria and virus infections, as well as get people out who want to leave.
Being able to receive a small ray of hope within hours or days of a storm is critical in the long term healing of a storm victim. A meal or necessities coming from veterans after a disaster let's people know "everything will be alright". *We have been told this several times over the years.
