During the first few weeks after Hurricane Harvey we delivered food and water.
It has been 11 weeks (77 days) since Texas was hit by Hurricane Harvey. We found the Hatthorn's in Danbury, TX, living in their Harvey flooded home after demolition. They are unable to get help because Gordon, a Desert Storm and Gulf War Veteran, still has his job at the local post office. But doesn't have $53,678 in savings to pay for his home repairs. Many of the Hatthorn's neighbors took out loans of over $100,000 from the SBA, this amount was established by the SBA in order to receive the loan to make the repairs. The Hatthorn's household income is too low to repay a loan of this sort. They are barely making it paycheck to paycheck right now.
On August 28, 2017, during Hurricane Harvey, the bayou 2 miles from the Hatthorn's home in Danbury, Texas overflowed. Flooding the whole neighborhood including the Hatthorn's home. During the flood, Gordon and Tiana worked frantically to get everything (they possibly could) up at least 2 feet off the floor. They even had to push their vehicles to higher ground, so they could save them from the flood. Since then the water receeded and the Hatthorn's began the cleanup process. Demolition of the bottom 4 feet of insullation and drywall, cabinets, doors, flooring, furniture, appliances, electronics, clothing and more have been done with the help of neighbor's and the church. FEMA came out and did their evaluation...yet as of today, the Hatthorn's have received nothing from FEMA.

The Hatthorn's do not live in the 500 year flood plain, therefore, they did not have flood insurance. Gordon is a Desert Storm and Gulf War Veteran that works for the post office in Danbury. And his wife Tiana was working before Hurricane Harvey but is still unable to go back to work due to limited business at her place of work. Their daughter Amelia is 14 years old.

As you can see in the video, up to 4 feet of the drywall, insullation, cabinet doors, appliances, interior and exterior doors and the majority of their flooring was damaged. Thankfully the ceramic tile seems to be ok.
