In the US, Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, reflection, and togetherness—a season to gather with loved ones and share a warm meal. But for many families across Kentucky, rising grocery costs have turned this cherished tradition into a source of stress and uncertainty.
This year, Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland worked with agency partners across our region to distribute 3,000 holiday food boxes to neighbors like Amanda.
This is Amanda’s second Thanksgiving without her husband, who passed away two years ago. Her family feels his absence deeply during the holidays—he was the one who deep-fried their turkey and prepared macaroni and cheese and stuffing side dishes.
With the support of our agency partner, Morgantown Mission in Butler County, Feeding America, Kentucky's Hearland provided Amanda's family with a Thanksgiving meal box. This small gesture of comfort creates a space for them to both grieve and reflect without the added worry of how they’ll put food on the table.
Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland is grateful for the opportunity to serve our neighbors facing challenging times with kindness and comfort. Happy Thanksgiving!
