Kamal* is a farmer from South Sudan. Today, the 56 year old man lives in a small village in the north of the country, together with three women and seven children. During the civil war in 2013 he lost many of his relatives and now he is the only one to support his family. In order to get food, he collected wild plants, did some fishing and hunting. Only by selling milk from his cattle could he make some money, but soon his animals were plagued by disease and his family had nothing but one meal a day.
In South Sudan nearly 5 million people are in danger of starvation. ADRA is one of Aktion Deutschland Hilft’s beneficiaries, directly helping those people in need with money provided by our donors. In one of their programs, Kamal was given medicine for his cattle and courses about better farming practices and animal health. He was also taught how to sell the milk more effectively. Now, his animals produce five to eight liters of milk per day and he has a steady income from farming and fishing. Even his daughter can now permanently go to school and therefore has a chance of overcoming poverty.
We are very grateful that you support the work of our coalition. It enabled us to increase our support to people in need. As the hunger crisis is still going on, humanitarian aid is the only possibility to support the people suffering in East and West African countries. Thank you!
