The civil war, in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, has been going on for many months and the humanitarian situation of the people has deteriorated dramatically. The United Nations warns: without immediate action, food insecurity and malnutrition will reach catastrophic levels. There is a threat of severe famine.
Millions of children, women and men urgently need humanitarian aid. But access for international aid organizations to the region is blocked by the parties to the conflict. There is looting and confiscation of aid supplies.
"What is urgently needed now is a sustained ceasefire and a safe humanitarian corridor for aid deliveries", demands the managing director of Aktion Deutschland Hilft.
According to the UN, more than 350,000 people are at risk of starvation. They belong to the highest level (5) of the food insecurity categorization. Another 2 million people fall into level 4.
Through member organization the alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft, food and water supplies are being set up. Tons of relief supplies are delivered to the affected areas. And malnourished children are provided with special food enriched with special nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
