In the past couple of months at Humans in the Loop Foundation, we have started five new trainings. Our HITL Stars programme - an instructor-led course that launched in April 2024 and is set to finish in mid-July 2024. The programme consists of four separate courses - English in two levels (Beginner and Pre-Intermediate) and IT (in Beginner and Intermediate levels). Our English groups consist of a total of 42 people, and our IT trainings currently consists of 22 trainees. In May this year, we also launched our second edition of the HITL Intro to Graphic Design course which started with 37 participants and will have its graduation in August.
In addition to our English courses as part of the HITL Stars Programme, we also started our English Language Partnership program led by our new colleague taking the position of Volunteer and Training Coordinator. This program pairs native English speaker volunteers with our trainees to give them an additional hour a week to meet with someone and practice their speaking skills. We currently have 15 pairs meeting weekly.
Additionally, at the beginning of May, we launched a third pilot project in Kenya, where we are providing participants (both locals and people with refugee status in Kenya) with annotation skills and access to all our trainings on our Training Platform. We have conducted a train-the-trainer with a local representative on the ground who is supporting all participants throughout their skills-building process. So far this year, we have provided 80 people with skills training via our platform, 40 of those progressing to complete a paid mock annotation project. We are currently starting to work with an additional 40.
We have successfully finalized our second edition of a program with HP Bulgaria for their 40 Days of Doing Good initiative. The program paired HP workers who supported pro-bono 14 of our beneficiaries, in work-related skills improvement in English language - preparing for an interview, writing a CV, writing a motivation letter, etc. We would like to share one of our trainee's comment on the programme “I would like to sincerely thank my mentor for her time, professionalism, sincerity and willingness to share her experience! It was very valuable and useful for me to work in this project. I highly recommend it to everyone!”.
Furthermore, in June we shared our Social Impact Report for 2023, showcasing all our hard work through the year, and providing details about all our partners, funders, and beneficiaries, giving more detail on our goals, future plans, and areas of improvement.
