A very special thank you to all of the very generous GlobalGiving donors to the Emergency Humanitarian Relief Fund organized by Friends of Burkina Faso. Our fundraising campaign for this emergency is ending and decisions have been made by our board regarding the allocation of these funds. All and all, with donations coming in by a variety of means, we were able to raise just over $60,000. Each and every donation is much appreciated and counts toward achieving this sum.
Within the time period allocated to accepting applications, we received proposals for funding from five local organizations in Burkina Faso which are attempting to respond to the most urgent needs of internally displaced people (IDP) who have fled terrorist attacks in their villages. In all cases, the first priority of these groups has been to respond to food insecurity among the IDP population arriving in their communities. Our goal was and remains to help where the need is greatest, hopefully buy a bit of time for the government and international aid organizations to expand their assistance capacity, and to demonstrate our solidarity with the Burkinabe people during this very difficult time.
Our board is in the process of working with each of the five local organizations to arrange for the transfer of funds and to outline a procedure to ensure accountability for the expenditure of these funds.
