Summary: Extreme violence in northern and eastern Burkina Faso has caused more than 900,000 people to flee for their lives, leaving nearly all their possessions behind. They have fled south and west to larger towns which are now bulging with tens of thousands of displaced victims of terrorist violence. This fund will support humanitarian relief efforts, mainly food, hygiene and temporary shelter, by vetted local organizations that are providing emergency assistance and support to those in need.
Villages in northern and eastern Burkina Faso have been emptied by attacks from jihadi militants. Militant Islamist violence in Burkina Faso has gone from four jihadi attacks in 2015 to 450 in 2019. In a country with no history of such violence and therefore little to no here-to-fore presence of larger humanitarian assistance organizations, displaced persons who have fled their homes are scraping by in makeshift refugee camps without adequate food, hygiene, shelter or medical care.
This fund will support life-saving assistance and relief efforts for Burkinabe people displaced by violence. Your support will help survivors get necessary immediate relief assistance: food, basic hygiene and temporary shelter.
Our immediate assistance will support the acute nutritional, hygiene and shelter needs of displaced persons while our partners and larger relief organizations work to identify longer term strategies and solutions to this problem. We will post reports about how funds are used. Donors will receive reports via email.
