The Humane Society of Dallas is the sole no-kill animal shelter in Dallas County. We do not euthanize for space or for easily treatable illnesses as is the practice of other Dallas shelters. We are a strictly non-profit organization so our funds come only from donations and other charitable contributions. However, donations are down this season and the Humane Society of Dallas cannot do what we are most passionate about: animals, without your help!
Our shelter has been impacted in reduced and low financial donations this season. Yet, with an animal count consistently over 175 animals, we are extremely dependent on donor support in order to offset cost. Vaccinations, blood testing, and microchipping for an animal comes to well over $200 per animal. Medical treatments for heartworm alone are over $200, and the cost for housing and feeding for a month is around $600 to $800 per animal. Yet, we only ask for $100 - $200 for our adoptions.
As a non-profit 501c.3 shelter, we can continue to maintain the cost of operation in ensuring our animals are given food and medical attention. In receiving donation support we can concentrate not only on the needs of the animals in our care, but in maintaining the facility they call home. The ability of the shelter to help animals and the number of animals we can provide care to increases with financial donor support.
Operation, maintenance, medical care and provision is directly corollary to donor support. In order to provide care to animals, we must have the ability to do so. The greater our support, the greater the opportunity we can provide to animals who need help and can eventually be adopted into forever homes.
