The rights like education, housing, health, appropriate wage, equal opportunity, life and environment is guaranteed in the constitution of Bangladesh but the urban poor are deprived of those significantly. The prime objective of HRLS ensuring human rights including living rights of urban poor through coordinating activities of government & non-government organizations. The project proposed to mobilize the urban poor community to change their livelihood by adopting various activities.
There are around 4.5 million urban poor living in slums in Dhaka with the following challenges- 1. Lack of Habitation 2. Human Rights & Dignity neglected 3. Access of Justice denied 4. Lack of shelter 5. Access to education for the children 6. Absence of skill/resource development and employment support 7. Inadequate water and sanitation facilities 8. Access limited to urban health care facilities for complexity in health policy 9. Continuous slum eviction without rehabilitation
The project can provide support to the breast feeding mothers, poor students under 18 years of age, old aged & disabled person, develop skills of the needy people, develop leadership of the community/network leaders, provide human rights & paralegal trainings, create community based awareness to raise their voice, provide humanitarian support and to provide emergency relief on any crisis.
the central BOSC( slum dwellers community based network) strengthened for raising voice. Will create knowledge on human rights, basic rights, how to raise voice, how properly mobilize the poor community, change livelihood by developing socio legal status as a citizen of the country. From all the activities it is expected around 10000 family be benefited directly and whole slum dwellers community indirectly. Scope of creating skilled leadership and skilled human resources for the society.
