The first 5 years play a significant role in a child's life. But, for thousands of children, growing up well continues to be a distant dream. Long before they turn 5, their physical, emotional and cognitive growth is irreversibly hampered by lack of adequate nutrition and healthcare. You can make a difference by giving them a 'healthy start'. 'Healthy Start' initiative will ensure 30,513 babies under the age of 1 year across CRY-supported projects receive access to all lifesaving vaccines
In India there are 138 million children between 0 to 5 years. For a large number of them, the reality of childhood is very different. Lack of access to healthcare services, inadequate care for pregnant and lactating mothers, malnutrition, little awareness and sensitisation lead to many children missing out on the crucial care and attention needed in this significant phase of life. 0.7million infants die in the first 4 weeks after birth & only 44% of children of 12-23 months are fully immunised
CRY and its grass root partners are working towards the following - Activate defunct or demand new healthcare centres if the village has none. - Support the health workers in providing pre-natal care, adequate food and timely health check ups to pregnant woman so that she stays fit and gives birth to a healthy child. - Make parents and communities aware of the need of immunisation - Demand & ensure adequate infrastructure & health workers at ICDS
The long term impact of the project is to ensure that local public healthcare and the ICDS centres have the necessary infrastructure and qualified health workers to provide effective delivery of quality maternal and child health care. * ICDS- Integrated Child Development Scheme centres monitor development of children between the age of 0-5 and provides supplementary nutrition and ante-natal care to children and mothers.
