This project will provide Hurricane Beryl recovery and relief assistance for elders who are susceptible to physical health challenges; people who are displaced from their homes and jobs; families needing temporary childcare solutions; communities suffering due to mental health care disparities; and victims of other disasters in Houston and surrounding areas. Assistance will help with immediate relief, supplies, support, and long-term recovery.
Hurricane Beryl hit the Houston area on July 8, 2024, leaving millions of families without electricity for days. More than 800,000 families are still without electricity almost a week later while Houston continues to experience record-breaking heat. Communities that were already experiencing economic loss and food insecurity are still without electricity and in need of temporary shelter, medical assistance, food, and supplies.
SHAPE provides support and temporary financial assistance for elderly and disabled people, and those who have been displaced from their homes and jobs; have difficulty acquiring food, medicine, and supplies, and lack financial means to combat threats to their physical and mental health. We provide direct goods such as cleaning supplies and disinfectant, water, food, and other items, as needed.
We will help 800-1200 elders, families and individuals recover and gain relief from the direct and indirect impact of Hurricane Beryl. Additionally, we will help improve their physical quality of life, while also helping them recover mentally from the turmoil caused by social barriers to healthy living.
