In order to thrive in the classroom, students need a supportive environment at home. Unfortunately, in Malawi, far too many children go without quality, affordable housing. EKARI's programs fill this gap for students, providing them with housing, food, mentoring, healthcare, and more--all designed to ensure they can excel at school. As our work scales, we desperately need more space to accommodate more than 2x the youth we serve today.
EKARI Foundation has purchased land adjacent to its current home where the Father Joseph Makina Home will be built, providing accommodations to 30 students. The new home will allow us to provide separate facilities for the female and male students, reduce crowding, and improve their sanitation and cleanliness. Our youth beneficiaries will be able to continue to participate and excel within both their studies and EKARI's complementary programs, which are critical for their success.
A quality education is the best pathway out of poverty. By providing housing for students, we can ensure EKARI's students have the comprehensive support they need in order to thrive in the classroom. Investing in building this home now will strengthen the foundation of education and self-sufficiency for Malawian students for years to come, enabling opportunities for youth to lift themselves and their families out of poverty, build successful careers, and become role models in their communities.
