We are raising funds to provide a safe space and housing for boys who are facing wrongful incarceration, neglect, exploitation, violence or sexual assault. Most boys in Kenya often do not have a place to stay once they experience trauma and because of that we offer a place they can call home, education, transformative justice and aftercare support as they transition back into their families.
Boys and young men who go through wrongful incarceration, violence, neglect, exploitation or sexual abuse often receive no support to overcome stigma and trauma. As a result, they become more vulnerable to juvenile delinquency, gender based violence, sexual assault, crime and conflict. Failure to properly address this thorny issue, may result into these boys and young men evolving into abusive boyfriends, husbands, fathers and uncles who carry and transfer trauma and stigma into the future.
Lifesong Kenya provides a safe space and halfway house for boys and young men who need healing from stigma and trauma. Since October 2021, we have been renting a 3-bedroomed house that has the capacity to accommodate 20 boys and young men at any given time. During their stay at the halfway house, the boys receive support through housing, life coaching, skills training, reconciliation with their families and economic empowerment. This enables them to find healing, hope and restoration.
Our long-term goal is to transform the lives of boys affected by trauma and stigma, enabling them to find hope, healing, restoration and reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens, while also providing support to their families and victims. We will equip the boys with hands-on skills they need to find employment or start their own small business so that they can stand on their own feet. Also, they will be able to overcome trauma and stigma, leading to longlasting healing.
