House of Hope and COVID-19
By Lee Koelzer | Director, Grassroots Uganda
Hi there! Not too much of an update at this time. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Uganda is on lockdown, so the kids who live at House of Hope full time are there carrying on with daily life as usual, but there is no school and no one is allowed to leave the property.
All the kids who have homes or family members who are willing to take them in have gone there, and we expect them back after the lockdown is over. Until then, we are just hunkered down and trying to behave outselves as much as possible!
Hopefully we'll have a fuller and funner report for you next time.
Thank you for your continued dedication. With your love and support support the hopeless are hopeful.

Director Report
By Jenifer Tumwizere | HOH Director
Greetings to you dear Friends. Appologies for the delay- my life is disorganized so please send me prayers and happy thoughts. Back to House of Hope, kids are doing fine busy working hard because their are in last term of year where they will do promotional exams to take them to next grades. So every one is very busy now. For P7 kids they have finished they national exams to take them to secondary level or vocational level. We had 12 kids who did exams and they are all excited to have reached this level. Thank you so much for giving them chance to be in school. This year we had 186 children in the whole school but big number are very younger ones between 3 and 9 age. Thank you for your continually support and love. With your love and support hopeless are hopeful.

Penny Jar
By Lee Koelzer | Director GRU
For the past several years, Mrs. Carey – a Grassroots Uganda supporter and middle school teacher at Three Forks Public School - has put a penny jar out in her classroom. Over the course of the year the kids throw extra pennies into the jar and at the end of the year the pennies are added up and donated to one of our projects.
As this was Mrs. Carey’s last year of teaching before retirement, she had been crazy busy and never put out her penny jar. Awesomely, on the last day of school the kids brought a jar up to her full of pennies! The kids realized the jar was never put out and instead of talking to her about it- they just put out their own jar!!! The kids raised the money in spare pennies at their own initiative. We are extremely proud and impressed by these kid’s dedication and go-getter attitude!
To all the parents and teachers of these amazing kids- you’ve done well. With your ongoing love and support the hopeless are hopeful, and the future for this next generation is looking pretty bright.
