This project will create a safe and conducive hostel for young people, especially girls in our tuition-free learning centre. In September 2019, Bramble opened the first learning centre in Arikanki village and this space has continued to provide quality learning opportunities for young people in Arikanki and its surrounding villages. This dormitory was designed by Maimba Kahara under the NGO Journeyman International who have designed 114 projects across 44 countries.
Located in a remote rural area, our learning space has been facing numerous challenges in providing adequate education to its learners. One of the major hurdles is the lack of proper accommodation for learners who live far away from the community and especially, the girls from families with cultural practices that threaten their participation in learning. Many of them have to travel long distances, with some walking over one-and-a-half-hour distances, often enduring weather and safety concerns.
We have undertaken the ambitious initiative of constructing a dormitory within the premises of the learning centre. This dormitory will serve as a safe haven for learners, allowing them to focus on their learning and engage in various extracurricular activities without the added burden of commuting. By providing a conducive living space, we aim to create an environment that promotes holistic development, encourages teamwork, and fosters a sense of belonging.
Education plays a crucial role in shaping the future of young people. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in helping girls from rural areas and low-income families get a life-transforming opportunity at the centre. In each of these learners lies a potential global changemaker or community builder.
