One Kitten's Journey To Recovery

In the heart of Santa Ana, amidst the bustling streets and hidden alleys, lies a feral cat colony. It's a harsh world for these felines, where survival is a daily struggle against hunger, disease, and the elements. Among these resilient creatures, a tiny soul fought against the odds – his name is Tito.

Tito's story is one of both tragedy and hope. Found as a frail and sickly kitten amidst the colony, his future seemed uncertain. But fate intervened, and Tito was rescued by our dedicated team at CATS. His condition was dire, requiring immediate medical attention. For three long weeks, Tito battled illness in the hospital, clinging to life with every ounce of his tiny being.

Now, after weeks of intensive care and round-the-clock monitoring, Tito has emerged as a true survivor. His once frail frame now brims with vitality, a testament to his resilience and the unwavering dedication of our staff. However, his journey is far from over. Tito still requires thorough vetting and care to ensure he is ready for his forever home.

It's essential to shed light on the plight of feral colonies like the one Tito was found in. These communities of cats often face unimaginable hardships, with limited access to food, shelter, and medical care. It's a harsh reality that many stray and feral cats endure, highlighting the importance of organizations like ours in providing a lifeline for these animals in need.

But none of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors. The cost of Tito's hospital stay alone was substantial, underscoring the financial strain that comes with rescuing and rehabilitating animals in critical condition. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a tangible difference in the lives of cats like Tito, providing them with a second chance at happiness and health.

From Rags To Riches

At our rescue, we frequently collaborate with our dedicated TNR partners in our collective mission to provide a second chance at life for cats and kittens that are not just homeless but also friendly. This dynamic partnership is essential to our commitment to finding loving homes for these deserving felines.

The challenge of feral cat colonies is a prevalent issue in many communities, and it demands our attention. In response to this growing concern, the humane and practical approach of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) has risen to prominence as a beacon of hope for these cats.

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a compassionate three-step method that comprises trapping, neutering or spaying, and returning feral cats to their original location. This thoughtful approach offers numerous advantages, foremost among them being population control.

Meet Jake: A Testament to Compassion

Our journey in this endeavor is marked by heartwarming stories, like that of Jake, a kitten discovered by one of our dedicated TNR members within a feral colony. It is believed that he was callously abandoned by a previous owner. When Jake was found, he was undernourished and suffering from mange, but his disposition remained remarkably friendly. Recognizing his potential for a better life, our TNR partners reached out to us, and without hesitation, we welcomed him into our rescue.

With your unwavering support, we embarked on a transformative journey for Jake. We provided him with the care he desperately needed, addressing his mange and helping him regain his weight. Jake underwent the crucial neutering and vaccination process, and today, he stands ready for adoption, his life forever changed.

Your ongoing support remains the cornerstone of our ability to make a difference in the lives of cats and kittens found in feral colonies. Each cat we rescue represents a story of resilience and hope, and your contributions fuel our efforts to help them find the lives they truly deserve. Third Time's a Charm

Every year, approximately 3.4 million cats are surrendered to animal shelters. Animal abandonment is a distressing and all too common occurrence that has serious consequences for the feline welfare. Cats are domesticated creatures that rely on human care and attention for their well-being. The reasons behind cat abandonment are diverse, but some common factors include owners moving to places where cats are not allowed, financial difficulties, and a lack of awareness about responsible pet ownership.

Being in Rescue, we see cat abandonment often. With limited resources, we unfortunately can not take in all abandoned cats, but we always try to help where we can.

Take the story of Taz, for example. Taz was a super cute orange kitten who was left behind in an apartment complex to fend for himself when his owners moved away not taking him with him. A caring neighbor took Taz in after he was left behind and he had a great home for 2 years! However, the owner fell ill and had to move into a full time nursing facility where they did not allow animals. This was a permanent situation where recovery was not possible. Our rescue was contacted by family of Taz’s owner trying to find a home for Taz. Although they would not take in Taz permanently themselves they were committed to fostering him and we agreed that if they would continue to foster we would put him on our website and try and help to find him a home. It wasn’t long after he was listed on our website that someone applied to adopt him!

Third time was a charm for little Taz, now called Cheeto, because he found himself an amazing home where we are certain he will be treasured for life and won’t have to find a new home ever again. This story has a happy ending. Unfortunately, they don’t all, because the numbers are staggering. Therefore, it is crucial to promote education and awareness about the responsibilities of cat ownership and encourage adoption from shelters to combat the heartbreaking issue of cat abandonment. Thank you for your continued support and donations. It is because of you that we are able to help at least some of those 3.4 million cat surrenders each year and bring more happy endings to these wonderful animals who depend on us!
