Summer Adventure Awaits

By Lauren Click | Project Leader

When most people think of pets on leashes, they picture dogs. But more and more cat lovers are discovering the joys of leash training, and summer is the perfect season to give it a try.

Leash walking can be a great way to safely introduce your cat to the outdoors, especially for curious, high-energy kitties who long to explore beyond the window sill. With the right harness, a secure leash, and a patient approach, many cats can learn to enjoy backyard adventures, patio lounging, or even nature trails. It’s excellent enrichment and a bonding experience for both cat and human.

At CATS, we love seeing our adopters take enrichment seriously and leash training is one way to give cats the stimulation they crave. Whether it’s a confident kitten or a curious adult cat, leash walks can help reduce boredom, prevent behavioral issues, and support overall wellbeing.

If you adopt from us, ask about which cats might be good leash candidates! And if you already have a cat at home, consider taking it slow: start indoors with a comfortable harness, offer lots of praise and treats, and let your cat lead the way.

Not every cat will love the leash, but for those who do, a whole new world of safe adventure awaits.
