Homes for Child Survivors of Sex Trafficking

The last few months of navigating daily life amidst COVID-19 have revealed the resilience of the survivors we serve, the faithfulness and dedication of the staff who provide daily care, and the generosity of donors during a financially scary time in our world. The entire CF team is humbled by and grateful for the continued support that we have received through this season, and our field knows that they are deeply loved. 

Sarah’s House has adopted very strict measures on transit from city to city requiring employees coming into town for work to carry letters of permission in order to travel. We continue with partially quarantined operations in our aftercare shelters with limited in and out activity. All staff who can do their work from a distance are doing so, while others have signed up for multi-day shifts to limit the number of entrances and exits per week. As you can imagine, everyone, girls and staff alike, would like things to get back to normal as soon as possible. However, we are gearing up for the long-term as the COVID-19 crisis is predicted to have a broad and devastating impact in Indonesia. 

Even in the midst of so much uncertainty and change because of COVID-19, there have been many reasons to celebrate. Three residents of Sarah's House are graduated from high school in May. With the support of shelter staff, each girl has plotted her own path toward the future of her choosing. Vanessa is preparing for a medical school entrance exam, pursuing her long time dream of becoming a doctor. Kristal is deciding between pharmacy and nursing school. Brigit plans to study theology and become a missionary one day.

Police are rescuing more children from North Sulawesi than Sarah’s House can physically hold. We’ve been at capacity for several months now. It is often the case for a girl at Sarah’s House not to have a safe family environment to return to after her residential program is complete, which sometimes extends her stay. We are grateful and excited to let you know that we just opened the doors to our first Transition Home in North Sulawesi last month. Graduates and girls in advanced phases of care will now have a next step available to them in moving toward the future of their choosing. This also opens more beds at Sarah’s House for girls just beginning their healing journey.
