Compassion First provides residential and community-based care for Indonesian girls under 18 who have been legally rescued from sex trafficking and have suffered from multiple sexual traumas. Through personalized care, child survivors are building resilience to overcome trauma through education, medical care, counseling, & life-skills training.
Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous country. A 2017 study estimated that 70-80,000 children are sexually trafficked in the country, and Indonesia's Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) recorded a sharp increase in cases during the pandemic. There is a significant lack of resources available to survivors. Without a long-term aftercare program, many underage girls rescued from sex trafficking in Indonesia face a significant risk of being re-trafficked.
By providing survivors with personalized care that builds resilience to overcome trauma through education, medical care, counseling, & life-skills training, Compassion First significantly decreases child survivors' risk of being re-trafficked.
Compassion First has provided personalized aftercare to 53 Indonesian girls rescued from sex trafficking during our 13 years of operations. When these girls receive the care they need, they heal from trauma, recognize their immeasurable worth, identify dreams for the future, move towards their relational and academic/vocational goals, and re-enter their communities safely.
