As of this writing, one of our longtime residents at Sarah's House is graduating from our program! This is a huge milestone for "Sarry" as the culmination of a four-year journey with us. During that time she has gone through extensive counseling to overcome trauma as a trafficking survivor. She has navigated the legal prosecution of her traffickers, caught up with her education, reintegrated with family and friends, and gained important life skills while living full-time at Sarah's House. She has completed primary school and is currently attending Bible college. By all accounts, Sarry is thriving all around!
But her graduation ceremony at the house, in front of all her friends and supporters from our program, was more than just a celebration of her hard work and healing. It's even more than a celebration of the bright future we all see in her. Sarry has been at the house long enough to see other girls graduate from the program, so she knows what an important moment this is for her sisters in earlier stages of the process. The journey of healing and reconciliation from sustained sexual trauma that these young girls embark on is not an easy one. There are dark and hopeless days along the way, and not everyone makes it. But to see one of their friends like Sarry celebrate reaching the end of that journey gives real, tangible hope to cling onto during the most difficult times. Two more girls were just rescued from the region and joined Sarah's House within the last few weeks. They have a long and painful journey ahead of them. But seeing the other side, and the freedom and joy in Sarry - a girl just like them, that went through what they went through - gives hope like little else can.
So join us in celebrating and congratulating Sarry. And join us also in praying for and cheering on our newest residents. We look forward to their graduation in a few years too!
