Sarthi plans to build a residential center in Patna to provide a home for at-risk street children and orphaned youth as a safe alternative to their incarceration in often dangerous state-run homes.
Government detention homes in Bihar hold uncounted numbers of orphaned children, street children, and children from impoverished and broken families. They are housed in these centers in often substandard conditions, alongside other juveniles who are much more “hardened” than they are by delinquency and life on the street. Many remain in these homes for year after year. SARTHI plans to open up a residential shelter to offer them a nurturing environment, education, and promise for a better future.
Sarthi’s residential center in Patna will give these children shelter, food, healthcare, education, counseling, and case management services for their long-term growth and sustainability.
Children given a full-time education, food, and lodging will be less likely to return to the street and have the opportunity to become positive members of society.
