Sarah's Circle has been serving women experiencing homelessness since 1979. Since we opened our doors we've helped women with a variety of issues in addition to their need for a safe and secure home. Addressing women's mental health is something staff spend a great deal of time on.
Last year, 42% of the women we serve reported having a mental health condition. Since this is self-reported we believe the actual percentage is higher. We know that untreated trauma and mental illness can cause women to lose their housing and to remain homeless.
In December of 2024 we added a Director of Clinical Services to our program team. The person in this position has her LCSW and years of experience working directly with people in need as well as training and supervising staff providing direct services. She provides regularly scheduled training for staff, she helps them debief after crises, she supervises interns who provide support to programs, and she develops relationships with other community organizations to better serve our clients.
We know that help women exit homelessness for housing is only part of the solution to their difficult circumstances. Addressing health concerns (both physical and mental) is also essential.
