Greetings from Margadarshi The Association for Physically Challenged!!   

Margadarshi has renovated its infrastructure this month and added wardrobes etc., much to the happiness of our women at Home.  Couple of weeks back, Madhulatha, who was at our Home, who now is economically independent received an award from her employers, for completing her project in record time and we would like to share her success story with you all!

Madhu hailed from Pavagada, a remote and underprivileged village in Karnataka, India.  She was the only child to her parents.  Her father was a daily wage earner and passed away when Madhu was 5 years old.

Madhu was stricken with polio as a baby and she has to be carried by her father and later on by her mother, wherever she went, as transportation system and other infrastructure is not up to the mark even now, let alone 25 years back. She underwent surgeries, but still she was not able to move around.  She was attending a local school at her village, being carried by her mother to and fro.  Then came a stage where she had to discontinue as her mother no longer could carry her around.  

At this stage, Madhu was identified by Margadarshi during one of our camps in 2000, when she was 13 years old.  She was persuaded to come and join our Home to continue her studies, as there was no option to do this at Pavagada.  Madhu could only crawl when she came here, then afterwards she underwent a corrective surgery and she was able to move around with the help of crutches/wheelchairs.  She joined Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Girls High School, Bangalore to continue her study from 7^th Standard.  She finished her Graduation in B.Com at Dr.Ambedkar College, Bangalore in 2014.  She is working as an Accountant for the last 2 years and now she is not only mobile, but financially independent, taking care of her mother.  She moves around on her scooter  and a role model to many others who have lost hope due to disability.

Madhu’s achievements:

• Participated in Dance Programme at Ravindra –Kalashetra, Bangalore in 2012
• Won 1^st Prize in 100 metres Wheelchair race (International Disabled day) in 2011
• Won 3^rd Price in Shot put at International Disabled day Celebration in 2011
• Second prize in Pot painting & Collage making Competition at College.

Madhu is staying now independently and says “I am very grateful to Margadarshi, I owe my life to Margadarshi”

Madhu’s empowerment was possible only because of the kind hearted donors like you.  There are many women at our Home, who needs to be financially independent and we are sure your support will always be there!!!
