Dear Valued Partner,
At SECHILD, our work this quarter has been centered on love, resilience, and care for children living with severe cerebral palsy. These children face enormous challenges every day—many cannot walk, talk, or feed themselves without support. Yet with your help, we are giving them comfort, therapy, and a safe home where they are not defined by their disability, but by their courage.
1. Therapy and Daily Care
Although funding limitations mean we cannot provide daily therapy, each child now receives therapy twice a week, with two sessions per day. For children with severe cerebral palsy, even the smallest progress—like loosening stiff muscles, holding their head up for a few seconds, or responding to a caregiver’s voice—is a big victory.
Therapies include:
Physiotherapy to reduce muscle stiffness and improve posture
Occupational and expressive therapy to encourage interaction and self-expression
Our home environment is calm, nurturing, and adapted to their needs. The children receive proper nutrition, daily care, and the dignity of being seen and loved.
2. Welcoming New Children
This quarter, we opened our doors to three new children, bringing the total number in our care to 20. Many of them come from indigent families who could not afford therapy or, sadly, from situations of neglect. At SECHILD, they are embraced with warmth and given the chance to grow within their abilities.
3. Caregiver Support
Caring for a child with severe cerebral palsy can be overwhelming for parents. That’s why we also train and guide caregivers, showing them how to safely carry, feed, and support their children at home. These sessions give parents hope and confidence, and they often tell us, “We feel less alone now.”
Impact at a Glance
Therapy sustained twice a week despite financial barriers
Noticeable improvements in comfort, posture, and responsiveness among several children
3 new children admitted, now safe and receiving consistent care
Challenges
Daily therapy, which these children urgently need, is still beyond our current budget
Rising operational and medical costs put pressure on sustaining quality care
Transportation difficulties hinder some caregivers from fully benefiting from training sessions
Looking Ahead
We remain deeply committed to:
Expanding therapy frequency as more funding becomes available
Providing mobility aids and therapy equipment to improve comfort and independence
Continuing to advocate for better inclusion and health services for children with severe disabilities in Nigeria
Gratitude
Every child at SECHILD represents a story of resilience. While progress may look different here—measured in smiles, small movements, or calm moments—you are making these milestones possible.
From all of us at SECHILD, thank you for helping us care for children who are often forgotten. Your support ensures they are not only seen but cherished.
