Since 2004 Hogar runs a program to improve lives of children and families in Camoapa. 2 centers conduct basic education/skills training. Hogar runs a 20-acre farm for Reforestation with some 60000 trees (fruits, for arborization/vegetation and varied plants). The farm feeds Hogar students and feeding centers of Camoapa. It trains the community in organic farming/healthy nutrition habits, has a Nursery, Veggie Garden, Animal Husbandry, Pig/Chicken Mngmt, Vermiculture composting, and Forestry.
Camaopa is a remote municipality and children are unable to attend regular school in the city due to distance. Hogar bridges the learning gap so they can attend secondary schooling. Hogar began with 8 students and now enrolls yearly 345 children, 545 high-risk pregnant teens and assists 2,725 families.
Hogar set up the Building Dreams, Transforming Lives for a Better Future program to teach basic education and vocational training program preparing children for secondary schooling and trade work. Moreover, pregnant teenagers attend classes to learn maternity and child-care and learn a trade skill to earn a living and support family after birth.
A whole municipality is raising a generation of children trained in farming and vocational skills for sustainable living. In the past 19 years, the program has been a success that the Ministry of Education supplies them with instructors but who however needs transportation money. Families of the community got engaged in farming and are apply the skills in their backyard plot.
