We will support 100 households in Limpopo, South Africa, caring for children and adolescents living with HIV. Through home visits, we'll provide psychosocial support, help children stay on lifesaving ARVs, and train families in climate-smart food gardening to strengthen nutrition and resilience.
In Limpopo, many children and adolescents living with HIV struggle to stay on their treatment because of poverty, stigma, and weak support systems. Families often face food insecurity, making it harder for children to take their ARVs consistently and remain healthy. This work had previously been supported through major donor funding, but that support was recently discontinued, leaving households at risk of losing critical health and food security services.
Our social work team will conduct regular home visits to provide psychosocial support and ensure children and adolescents living with HIV remain on their lifesaving ARV treatment. At the same time, our agro-ecology staff will train families in climate-smart food gardening, helping them grow nutritious food and reduce hunger. By combining health support with household food security, the project strengthens resilience, improves treatment adherence, and ensures that vulnerable children can thrive.
This project will help children and adolescents living with HIV to stay healthy, adhere to treatment, and complete their education, giving them the chance for brighter futures. Families will develop sustainable, climate-smart food gardens, reducing hunger and building resilience long after the project ends. Over time, stronger households mean better health, less stigma, and more resilient communities in Limpopo.
