Scholarships Update

By Audrey Ngozo | Communications & Fundraising Officer

Lin Lin Aung - PB alumni
Lin Lin Aung - PB alumni

It has been a busy time at Prospect Burma as we opened admissions for new scholarships in January and closed applications on the 15th of March. The scholarships committee is currently assessing this year’s round of applications and will subsequently select recipients. As is tradition, the number of applications exceeds our funds so we are unable to award as many scholarships as we would wish.

We take great pride and satisfaction in what our alumni achieve such as Lin Lin Aung who recently contacted us to let us know of her intentions to return home. She has been doing development work around the world for the past 12 years and informed us , " I think you and PB team will be pleased to know that I have decided to leave my job by end of May to go back home to help my country. It has been eight years at the International Youth Foundation (after nine projects, 12 countries in Asia and Africa), and I feel I am prepared to return and contribute meaningfully. I have been motivated by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's advice for people to come back without waiting for the perfect time.Greetings from Uganda - my last trip to make sure everybody is properly trained and getting jobs before I leave! I am attaching a photo for you. Many thanks for your kind support as always and please say hello to Patricia and PB team" - Lin Lin Aung

We are hugely privileged and grateful that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi continues to endorse PROSPECT BURMA’score activityof providing assistance through scholarships and educational projects to mainly young, disadvantaged Burmese nationals who would otherwise be prevented from obtaining a reasonable standard of education. In a message to PROSPECT BURMA this year Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said “We need educated young people, we need skilled young people, and we need people not just with knowledge and education but with the breadth of mind that will enable them to take our country into the wide world.  There is so much to be done and PROSPECT BURMA has already done so much.”  This is a wonderful tribute but the message is clear: much more needs to be done.

Please continue to support our project so we may help more students!
