Type 2 Diabetes is one of the most preventable diseases. Ensuring vulnerable communities such as the working class, senior citizens, those with chronic health conditions have access to free healthcare literacy will reduce the amount of Type 2 Diabetes present in these populations. All elements of the program will be delivered completely free of charge to the client.
Prediabetes means a person's blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. We see a critical need to address the high rates of type 2 diabetes. Limited health literacy hinders informed choices about nutrition, exercise, behavioural and preventative measures.
Our program empowers participants to take charge of their health with a) Weekly newsletters via email and or text, for 9 months which contain educational videos and information on monthly interactive workshops and support groups, both with small 6 person breakout rooms that allow participants to connect and share their stories and progress with and get to know each other.
With a successful "Preventing Type 2 Diabetes with Health Literacy" program, we can expect more empowered participants with improved health outcomes. Participants will gain knowledge and skills to manage stress, eat healthier, and prevent diabetes. This can lead to a decrease in diagnoses, reducing healthcare burden and improving overall well-being.
