Challenge

The devastating effects of migraines & other invisible illnesses are unknown to many. Migraine sufferers are 22% more likely to die from coronary heart disease and 30% more likely to die from stroke. The risk of hemorrhagic stroke is double for women who get migraine with aura. The global economy loses billions each year from lost workdays due to these invisible illnesses. Credible, evidence-based data is not always available for all types of treatments, and funding for research is scarce.

Solution

HHP will conduct an in-depth analysis of migraine data, and on several other invisible illnesses including Lupus, Crohn's, Fibromyalgia, Lyme & Chronic Fatigue. Symptoms, causes, treatments, and side effects will be studied. External clinical trial data will also be compiled, and all research will be shared with the public to help individuals manage their conditions and lobby for legislative changes. HHP's community forum will provide a place to share information.

Long-Term Impact

This project will reduce the time and expense it takes for individuals with migraine and other invisible illnesses to find appropriate treatments based on evidence-based research. It will also provide a source of data for condition communities to lobby for long-term legislative changes regarding patient care and services. The HHP community site will enable individuals to ask questions and share information about their health concerns while receiving support and encouragement from one another.
