Heros For Humanity Reshaping Rural India's Future - Campaign Update Report
April 2024 to June 2024
Overview:
Villages in rural India continue to face significant challenges due to inadequate healthcare infrastructure, a shortage of qualified medical personnel, and limited access to essential medicines and medical services. Our Heroes for Humanity program conducts workshops and training sessions, reaching out to schools and community centers to raise awareness and drive change. The Heros for Humanities program also facilitates access to necessary health services, which has been instrumental in improving the overall well-being of these communities. By focusing on sustainable practices and education, Heroes for Humanity not only addresses immediate health and educational gaps but also fosters long-term resilience and self-sufficiency in these rural areas.
Geographic Reach:
The Desai Foundation Heros for Humanity program has expanded its geographic reach by hiring and training Heroes in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha. To date we have currently indirectly impacted a population of over 21,793,488 people with 430 trained heroes actively working across these regions to provide direct servies.

Impact:
Since the project started, over 1,000 Heroes have touched the lives of over 5.8 million people through critical services, covering eight states, 16 districts, and 1,346 villages, ensuring assistance reaches those most in need.
Local individuals, mainly women, trained as “Heroes,” lead efforts in their villages as community facilitators educating and informing residents about crucial health issues such as gynecological care, general health check-ups, and menstrual hygiene. This quarter, our Heroes have directly impacted 32,000 individuals with health and hygiene education anemia camps and 11,400 individuals through Menstrual Health & Hygiene (MHM) awareness camps. Additionally, the program promotes financial literacy and provides guidance on accessing essential services critical for community empowerment with 178,000 individuals assisted this quarter via Help Desk services.
In May 2024 alone, 136,000 individuals were impacted through direct services, showcasing the profound influence and reach of our dedicated heroes in improving health and hygiene in their communities.
Impact to date:
Health and Hygiene and anemia Awareness : 743,562
Menstrual Health Management: 845,418
Help Desk Services: 1984,332
Today, the Heroes for Humanity program has provided vital information and assistance to 1.87 million individuals through Help Desk Awareness initiatives. with a focus on developing entrepreneurial skills in rural women through self-help groups. We also help beneficiaries receive specific government benefits that support rural entrepreneurs.
We've reached over 800,000 individuals through menstrual health awareness camps, as our Male Heroes have conducted sessions on Menstrual Health Management (MHM) with male community members, working to change the narrative around menstruation.
Conducted in collaboration with local Primary Health Centers our Anemia diagnostic test camps are being conducted consistently with over 6,400 checkups conducted in the month of May alone.
Impact on Heros:
Our Heroes are trained to address critical community needs, including menstrual health and hygiene education, access to menstrual products, vocational training opportunities, and navigating government schemes. This training not only equips them with the knowledge to serve their communities effectively but also boosts their confidence and skills, making them vital contributors to their local economies. By focusing on sustainable practices and education, Heroes for Humanity not only addresses immediate health and educational gaps but also fosters long-term resilience and self-sufficiency in these rural areas.
Through additional funding, we seek to expand our Heroes program to incorporate more local leaders and drive change across new and different rural communities throughout India.
