Summary

This project will continue helping more young Venezuelan doctors to complete their training. Currently, Healing Venezuela sends each of the 100 students a monthly scholarship of $50, allowing them to cover their basic expenses and thus successfully complete their studies. The doctors are studying in areas of primary importance such as pediatrics, neurology, gynecology and obstetrics, and cardiology, among others. We help alleviate the health crisis in Venezuela.

Challenge

For postgraduate medical students who do not have family support or any other source of income, it is basically impossible to complete their studies. The lack of public support programmes and an economic reality undermined by an inflation rate of nearly 14,000 percent make daily survival a real challenge. On the other hand, these young doctors are needed more than ever, due to the brain drain that Venezuela has suffered for more than a decade.

Solution

Once the most suitable students for the program have been selected, in collaboration with the universities where they are studying, Healing Venezuela sends each one of them a monthly scholarship of $50. These students pursue specialization studies in areas of primary importance. Also, the geographic location of the eight hospitals with which we work and the young Venezuelan doctors who are training at a national level allows us to affirm that we cover several strategic areas of the country.

Long-Term Impact

By helping more young Venezuelan doctors complete their training, we help alleviate the health crisis in Venezuela. From the moment they begin their internships, postgraduate students see many patients daily (up to 90 daily appointments), assuming the responsibilities of more experienced professionals. On the other hand, we encourage program participants to remain in Venezuela after their studies, making them aware of the necessity of their work and supporting them to continue their training.
