SOS Telemedicina, a program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Central de Venezuela, created an innovative project for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) 29 years ago. SOS Telemedicina has proven experience to offer accurate and high quality medical knowledge to the country and the region, to contribute to the training of health personnel, as well as a reference for the use of novel communication technology to provide truthful and up-to-date information to the community at large
In Venezuela, a prolonged economic crisis has led to a deterioration in health care, which has generated an increase in morbidity and mortality in the general population and especially in maternal and child populations. Therefore, the challenge of this project is based on strengthening primary care personnel, increasing their problem-solving capacity through the use of ICTs, and improving the educational level and information of health personnel, as well as the community.
Contribute to the reduction of general mortality and maternal and child mortality in particular, through the use of ICTs as a resource for training, updating and educating health personnel, teachers, community leaders and social workers. Create a communication channel for the community with topics for mass dissemination in traditional media and social networks, which allow them to identify their health problems and associated risks.
By offering distance education, training and information, on the most important aspects of general health, reproductive health, pediatric and adolescent care, the quality of care that health personnel provide to different groups of the population is strengthened. Likewise, this education contributes to allow responsible decision-making and the full exercise of health rights for all members of the community without discrimination.
