The Meet Kate Foundation provides intelligent young people with a scholarship for 3 years to finish their high school education. These young people do not have the financial means to pay for their final years of school. School fees, boarding facilities- including food, books and pocket money is covered. With the help of a personal mentor for added support, they can gain their diploma. With this, they can get better jobs or further their education and contribute to their communities.
In Ghana, the government provides free education for children until Junior High. Once they reach Senior High their parents have to pay for everything. The Meet Kate Foundation has seen many boys and girls who stay home or work small jobs (construction, selling on the streets) to take themselves through school. These young people are often very smart, hardworking and motivated to make the best out of life. We therefore feel that it is important to help them get a diploma to better their lives.
Working together with the best schools in the area, Meet Kate selects intelligent but needy children for her program. We pay for a full boarding scholarship, books and pocket money. Besides that, we assign a mentor to the students. This mentor is the key to the development and coaching of the child. After finishing their 3 year scholarship, the students will receive a high school diploma which will help him or her find a job or further their education.
Often these youth are the first in their family to finish high school. Because of this qualification they are able to find themselves better jobs. This will not only impact their own future, but their families' who often rely on them and also their communities. The youth we select are often very bright and furthering their education will also help them with other aspects of their development (socially and emotionally). Every child deserves a high school diploma and a chance at a brighter future.
