The heaviest rains and devastating floods, together with increasingly frequent and intense wildfires, have hit communities across Serbia, leaving thousands of children and families in urgent need. This project will deliver immediate relief, shelter, food, clothing, and essentials, so children can continue education and recover. Support will reach about 1,000 children and youth, while parents focus on rebuilding homes, livelihoods, and local infrastructure.
Once-in-a-generation rains caused major flooding, damaging roads, homes, and schools, displacing families and cutting off vital supplies. At the same time, prolonged drought and record heat fueled hundreds of wildfires. In July 2025, over 600 fires erupted nationwide, forcing evacuations in southern towns like Kursumlija, Zitoradja, Prokuplje, and Bor. Entire villages were threatened, properties destroyed, while drought left livestock without water and risked children's nutrition.
This project enables Pomoc deci to provide lifesaving aid, clothes, shoes, essentials, clean water, and school supplies. Support also includes safe spaces and health care to protect children from smoke, dehydration, and heat. As recovery shifts to rebuilding, the fund will help restore infrastructure and livelihoods while strengthening community resilience and preparedness for recurring floods and fires.
Climate change is causing recurring floods, droughts, and fires that demand strong, local responses. Pomoc deci's long-term presence ensures trust and effective action. As emergencies ease, support will shift to recovery and risk reduction, water management, fire-safe housing, and education. This project builds resilient communities able to protect children year-round, no matter the challenges nature brings.
