This period is the rainy season in Burkina Faso. Villagers are busy in their fields. Mots of the flowers from the fruit trees are gone (karité, cashew nut trees, mango trees). It is however the period when polination of crops is needed and where bees contribute a lot: corn, sesame, cotton, peanuts, beans...
A few years back, the firm Monsanto managed to introduce GMO cotton in Burkina. Some concerned beekeepers made an experiment. They place some bee hives in the GMO cotton field and some in a standard cotton field.
The African bees are normally very agressive and will attack people getting close to the hives. This happens for the hives in the normal cotton field. In the GMO cotton field, people could come to the hives and bees were letargique some dying around the hives. The pesticide diffuse by the plant was killing not only the parasite, but also the bees.
Four years ago the GMO cotton was banned, because of poor yields. However you never know when it will come back.
The activity for the beekeepers during this period is mainly to check on the hives to make sure that rains or winds are not damaging them.
