The honey harvest has started in April. The total weight of honey collected will be close to 12.000 from the 120 beekeepers we are following (60% of those are women).
This gives a revenue of 150 US$ per woman participitating in the beekeeping project. This is a very big amount of cash which helps the women to be more independent.
This cash is generally used for the family for health and schooling expenses. For most of the women in this program it means being able to send their children to school and to pay for the costs of medical consultations and medications.
Most of the men in the country side have difficulties to manage the cash they earn from the sale of their harvest. We see that many children abandonned schooling because of lack of cash to pay the school fees. Also what do they do if they cannot buy medications? They will use traditional medicine which do not work all the time.
Women can control much better their cash that men. The revenue for beekeeping is well managed by them.
Help us help those women!
Thank you
