Founded by Chef Jose Andres, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises. WCK has served more than 145 million meals in Gaza. WCK is seeking to rapidly scale up production to an unprecedented one million hot meals a day. The ambitious plan requires an increase to five high-capacity field kitchens and enough supplies to outfit scores of smaller community kitchens at the neighborhood level throughout Gaza.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deteriorating as attacks escalate near areas where hundreds of thousands of people have fled in search of safety. Constantly shifting evacuation orders are impacting our ability to produce as many meals as our kitchen capacities allow, putting more Palestinians at risk of malnourishment and starvation. 2 million people live in Gaza and are facing extreme circumstances around access to food and water.
The ambitious plan requires an increase to five high-capacity field kitchens and enough supplies to outfit scores of smaller community kitchens at the neighborhood level throughout Gaza. This scale up would then provide up to 1 million meals per day, through WCK field kitchens as well as community kitchens throughout the region. Alongside more food aid from other NGOs, it would save countless lives among the people in Gaza who have been starving for months on end.
When you see the giant pots of food cooking in Deir al-Balah, when you taste the fresh pita bread rolling off our mobile bakeries, you get a sense of hope in the future. A sense that someone cares. By providing immediate food relief, we're not just addressing the starvation - we're giving the people of Gaza strength and comfort.
