Senior Highlight: Our Work's Impact

Hello all Border Partners' donors and supporters of our project helping vulnerable seniors in northern Mexico!

First of all, we want to thank you for your continued support of our project and mission: we could not do this without your help and interest in improving the lives of older people lacking access to basic services in Palomas.

For this project report, we want to give you an update on our activities in the last few months and highlight one beneficiary of our senior services. The woman in the picture is a senior in Palomas who lives with her disabled brother since she was widowed several years ago. She has been receiving daily meals from Border Partners for six years now, and each time our staff delivers to her door she smiles and offers her blessings.

Despite her difficulties in the last years grieving the loss of her husband and living on a very low income, she continues through life with a smile on her face, gifting our staff with little sweet treats and expressing her gratitude. Her brother is her closest family member and she has no children, so her daily meals and the social contact with our staff have become an integral part of her life over the last several years.

In October, for our monthly social gathering at our center, the seniors each planted a small raised bed garden.  They are taking turns watering the plants.  In a few weeks, they will be able to harvest lettuce, spinach radishes and more.

If you want to support the needy seniors served by Border Partners in entering old age with dignity, and help us expand the services available to all our other senior beneficiaries, please consider making another donation to our project - just $10 can provide meals for one senior for a week, and $100 helps us host a "senior social" for all 25+ people we support in Palomas!

As always, thank you, and let us know if you have any further questions (or ideas!) about our projects in Palomas.
