In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, small-scale palm oil production is an important source of income for vulnerable families, particularly women and displaced people living in conflict-affected communities. Yet many of these entrepreneurs work informally, use traditional and low-yield processing methods, and struggle to access finance and reliable markets. At the same time, agricultural expansion must be managed carefully to protect the Congo Basin’s forests and biodiversity. This project was designed to help vulnerable palm oil entrepreneurs move toward safer, more sustainable and more resilient livelihoods.
With a total project budget of US$55,000, the initiative is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. To date, US$0 has been raised, and implementation has not yet begun. Our team is currently identifying qualified trainers and potential learners who will participate in the project’s activities once funding is secured. The planned support will focus on strengthening small palm oil businesses, improving production practices, promoting legal and financial inclusion, connecting entrepreneurs with appropriate financial services, and encouraging responsible, zero-deforestation approaches.
We are grateful to GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects this local initiative with donors around the world. This partnership gives vulnerable entrepreneurs an opportunity to be heard beyond their communities and helps us mobilize the resources needed to turn the project into action. We invite individuals, foundations and organizations to support this initiative. Every contribution can help create practical opportunities for women, displaced families and other vulnerable entrepreneurs to build more stable sources of income while protecting the natural environment on which their communities depend.
Our goal is not simply to provide short-term assistance. We want to help vulnerable entrepreneurs build businesses that can continue generating income, dignity and opportunity long after the project ends. With the support of donors and the GlobalGiving community, we can take the next step and begin implementing this initiative in the communities that need it most. Thank you to every donor and supporter who chooses to stand with these communities.
